Our family "daycation"

Yep, that's right, our family coined a new term today, the "daycation". Travel with two little ones is difficult and with gas prices on the rise, we decided day trips are the way to go. Today we decided to play tourist in Ian's hometown of Sequim, Washington. It's about a two hour drive North and slightly West from us on the Olympic Peninsula. We left about 9:00 this morning, skipping breakfast (just us, we fed the children) in anticipation of brunch at our favorite Sequim haunt, The Oak Table Cafe. They serve up the most delicious puffed apple pancake and their Spanish omelette is pretty good too. After a lovely brunch, we loaded the babes into the stroller and walked through town. "Town" is basically one quaint little street with some cute shops (mostly lavender themed) although the town is growing around the edges - they got themselves a Wal-Mart now! Okay, now I'm channeling my inner "Pioneer Woman". Peyton has now proved to be neater with an ice cream cone than a chocolate chip cookie (see earlier post) so we picked him up a vanilla cone... After strolling the town, we loaded up the offspring and drove around the beautiful Sequim valley. It really is a beautiful place though I do not think I could live there. It's just a little too isolated for me. We drove by the house Ian grew up in and it was looking quite cared for...

On our way out of town we stopped off at Coneheads for coffee - Peyton really liked the car coming out of the building - go figure!

A few oddities from the day...

Pop, ice, wine, beer and...come again...herring????

Is this what we've come to? No phone in the phone booth?
Not even a door so Superman can change in private?

And finally, I leave you with this......who is this boy with a pink binky and his hand stuck in a cup?
Must've been sooooome "Daycation"!

Daycation, brilliant. It will be in the dictionary soon, I'm sure of it. You've started something good with that one. We've done many of these, now I know what to call them! Your kids are so adorable.
