What a serendipitous day!
It started with a phone call from a friend who was supposed to come over this morning but was going to cancel because her son has a cold and she didn't want him infecting us or our toys (thank you very much). I suggested meeting somewhere in public and she mentioned the Tacoma Farmer's Market which I have not been to since before Peyton was born. We met at the light rail station since you can park for free and then take a quick ride to the market (again for free!). The kids loved riding the "train" and we were at the market in minutes. We strolled over to where her husband was volunteering in a preschool booth and I noticed a stage a little ways away. Suddenly over a loudspeaker was an announcement for a cooking demo by Top Chef Season 3 contestant CJ Jacobsen..."are you kidding me?"
Top Chef is one of my favorite shows and CJ was by far my favorite chef of his season. You might even say I had a little "chef crush" on him. So we shopped the market, picked up some lunch and then settled at a little table near his demo to eat and watch. It was really cool! The did a giveaway, which I didn't win, but my girlfriend's preschool colleague did, even though she didn't even know what Top Chef is (go figure). Anyway, she let my friend take a part of her prize since he'd harassed her into signing up and so he picked the Top Chef apron and gave it to ME! Apparently none of these people have cable so the whole excitement was all but lost on them...although they did seem excited on my behalf.
Peyton had a great time playing at the preschool's little birdseed exploratory table and Ashtyn had her fill of "treats".
When we were leaving the parking garage Peyton asked me where we were going next. I told him we were going home, to which he whined, "but I don't wanna take a nap!" I don't know where this came from because he no longer naps anyway.
Ironically, THIS is what I saw in my rearview mirror on the way home.
He's still in the car sleeping (with the windows down) in the garage.
Nope, no naps for him!
