My Hearts Desire...

So every pregnant woman has odd cravings right? You hear the cliche' pickles and ice cream, just plain old ice cream, Mexican food, Italian food, "I want it now, give me anything" food. Well, I've had none of these. I never send Ian out to the store late at night, I don't want snack foods galore, the occasional pickle is welcome, however, NEVER with ice cream. Noooooo, what I want more than anything, multiple times a day, is...wait for it...ice. Not just any ice, people. Crushed ice. At 10:30 last night while watching "The Biggest Loser" on delay, I could think of nothing else. I knew it was too late to indulge my craving but alas, I could shove it aside no longer...I HAD to have my beloved ice. Now this is more complicated than it sounds. I don't have the nice ice/water feature in my refrigerator door that handily crushes the ice for me. My freezer has an ice maker but in my opinion, it tastes like rubber hose. In order to indulge myself, I buy the cubed ice that comes in bags from the grocery store, pour some in a Ziploc bag and crush the heck out of it with a hammer. "Why not use a blender?" you ask. I had to throw mine out because it didn't BLEND anything let alone crush ice. Now, according to my Doctor, this craving is NOT the result of anemia (my levels are for the most part, normal). She says it is just a random pregnancy craving and shouldn't I be so grateful, as ice is not only fat free, but calorie free. The downside? I hear it is horrible for your teeth and my dentist would probably have a conniption if she knew of my awful habit. My only justification is that this does not seem to be a problem during my non-pregnant periods of life which is, thankfully, most of the time. So that's it, my dirty little secret is out. I love ice more than just about anything these days (people and dogs excluded).

What a blessing to crave something so simple and calorie free. I craved chips and salsa but not just any chips and salsa they had to be from the Mexican restaurant. Fortunately they sold the salsa by the jar and the chips in a giant brown paper sack. I haven't wanted them since.

I loved ice during my pregnancies, too. I have heard that Sonic has really good ice to crunch! ;)
